Outdoor Architectural Lighting for Year-End Project Delivery (2026 Specifier's Guide)

Direct answer: For an outdoor project that has to be handed over before year-end, the schedule — not the fixture — is the risk. VOC Lighting builds to order at MOQ 100 pcs per model, and production lead time is family-dependent: 7–10 days for spike and bollard luminaires, 30 days for in-ground luminaires. That gap decides your order date, so the order must be frozen while the spec is still easy to change. Lock four things early: IP/IK rating, mounting type, CCT and beam distribution, and the certification set required by the destination market — then request IES photometric files and the CE/RoHS evidence pack before release.

Why does the year-end window change what you order?

Year-end projects fail on documents, not on luminaires. Two reasons:

  1. Production is only one block of the timeline. With production lead times ranging from 7–10 days (spike and bollard) to 30 days (in-ground) at VOC Lighting, the critical path is usually the approval loop — submittals, sample sign-off, certification evidence, and shipping arrangement. Every one of those consumes calendar days before production starts.
  2. Late changes are the expensive ones. Once a project moves into production, an IP rating change, a CCT change, or a mount-type change is no longer a line edit — it is a re-quotation and a re-schedule.

The practical consequence: freeze the specification earlier than you think you need to, and freeze it in writing. If the scheme includes in-ground luminaires, schedule against their 30-day lead time — not the 7–10 day lead time of the spike and bollard families.

What has to be fixed before the order is released?

Decision Freeze this Why it blocks delivery
Ingress & impact protection IP rating and IK rating per location (bedding, façade, water features, walkways) IP rating is not upgradable after the housing is tooled and assembled
Mounting type In-ground, spike, bollard or wall-mounted Determines the housing, the cable exit and the installation detail
Light distribution Beam angle and asymmetric vs symmetric optics Wall washers and in-ground uplights cannot be substituted for each other
Colour quality CCT and CRI CRI >90 is standard across VOC Lighting ranges; project-specific CCT (including tunable white) is a batch-order item
Control On/off, 0–10V, DALI, TRIAC or wireless Driver selection and wiring depend on the protocol
Certification set CE/RoHS for EU; UL/ETL and DLC status where the US market requires it Evidence must exist before shipment, not after
Documentation IES/LDT photometric files, datasheets, installation drawings Lighting designers need these to sign off the design
Values that depend on the specific model — exact IP/IK figures, lumen output and beam angles for each outdoor family — must be confirmed against the current datasheet. Where a figure is not yet confirmed for a model, treat it as require confirmation and hold the release.

Which outdoor luminaire type fits which part of the project?

Type Typical project role Mounting Lead time Design note
In-ground / uplight Facade washing, column and tree uplighting Recessed into paving or planting 30 days Requires a recessing can and drainage detail; decide before paving is laid
Spike / garden Planting beds, path edges, low-level landscape Ground spike 7–10 days Easiest to relocate late — the most forgiving choice in a tight schedule
Bollard Walkways, plaza edges, step lighting Surface-mounted base 7–10 days Height and spacing govern evenness; optical control matters more than output
Wall light Entrances, façade articulation, hospitality exteriors Surface wall Confirm per model Up/down distribution defines the façade read
Wall washer Long runs of façade, feature walls Surface or recessed Confirm per model Asymmetric optics avoid scalloping on tall elevations

Specifications listed are the published options for each series. Confirm the exact configuration — wattage, CCT, beam angle and driver — against the current datasheet for the project, and request IES files for the optics you specify. Which certifications and documents should you request?

Requirement Applies to Where to verify
CE — Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU EU destination EUR-Lex, Directive 2014/35/EU
IES/LDT photometric files All specifier-led projects IES: learn about IES files
Outdoor lighting practice Exterior lighting design criteria (IES RP-8) Confirm the current edition with IES directly
DLC listing Where the spec calls for DLC-qualified products DLC Qualified Products List
Efficiency procurement reference Public-sector and institutional projects US DOE FEMP — purchasing efficient LED luminaires

Ask your supplier for the per-model evidence pack, not a generic certificate image: CE/RoHS documentation for the exact models shipped, plus IES files for the exact optics specified. VOC Lighting certifies selected models to CE, RoHS and CE/EMC and provides datasheets and photometric files for selected products — documentation is available from the certificates page and the downloads library.

How do you work backwards from a year-end handover date?

Step What happens Owner
T-0 Specification frozen: IP/IK, mount type, CCT, optics, control, certification set Designer + supplier
T+1–3 days Quotation with priced BOQ against the confirmed model list Supplier
T+3–7 days Samples / photometric evidence review and written approval Client
T+7–10 days Production — spike and bollard luminaires (MOQ 100 pcs per model) Supplier
T+30 days Production — in-ground luminaires (MOQ 100 pcs per model) Supplier
After production Inspection, packing, freight booking and transit Supplier + forwarder

In-ground luminaires are the long pole. Where a scheme combines in-ground fixtures with spike or bollard fixtures, the order date is set by the 30-day family — plan the release around it, not around the faster items. Shipment transit is destination- and mode-dependent and must be quoted separately — do not assume it, get it in writing. Send the drawings, lighting schedule or BOQ early and the specification review can run in parallel with commercial negotiation: send your project or request a quotation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order quantity for outdoor luminaires?

VOC Lighting works at a standard MOQ of 100 pcs per model for project orders. Mixed-model projects are quoted on the confirmed model list.

How long does production take for outdoor lighting?

Lead time depends on the luminaire family. Spike and bollard luminaires are produced in 7–10 days after order confirmation; in-ground luminaires take 30 days. The exact schedule is confirmed at quotation stage, and transit time is quoted separately.

Can IP rating be changed later?

No. IP and IK ratings are properties of the sealed housing and are fixed once the model is selected. They must be decided against the location — bedding, façade, water feature or walkway — before release.

Do you supply photometric files for outdoor luminaires?

IES files, dimensions and installation information are available for selected products. Request them for the exact optics you intend to specify, not for a family in general.

Which certifications apply to EU and US outdoor projects?

CE under the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and RoHS for EU destinations; UL/ETL and DLC status where the US specification requires it. Certificate availability varies by model — confirm against the exact model and destination market.

Can outdoor fixtures be customised for a project or private label?

Yes. As an OEM/ODM manufacturer VOC Lighting supports selected customisation of housing finish, optics, CCT, drivers, labels and packaging — see OEM & ODM lighting services.

Where are the luminaires produced?

VOC Lighting manufactures in Foshan, Guangdong, China, with in-house assembly, metal processing and photometric testing. Facility and capacity details are on the About page.

What if my fixtures arrive damaged or a specification is disputed?

Open the case with the model number, the packing list and photographs. For commercial terms, see the FAQ or contact sales@voclighting.com.
